On suffering from Dietrich Bonnhoeffer in Letters and Papers from Prison:
"It is a good thing to learn early that God and suffering are not opposites but rather one and the same thing and necessarily so; for me, the idea that God himself suffers is far and away the most convincing piece of Christian doctrine."

Broken-ness and Reconciliation-
Thoughts on Day Four of This Week
The opening quote by Robert Fulghum was so sad. Three lifetimes of opportunity for reconciliation were bypassed. A wise associate of mine Loretta Sylvia who is a professor and psychologist a Wake Forest University Medical Center, said “Lay down your end of the rope” using the analogy of ending a game of jump rope. How often I chose to speed up and prolong troubled relationships, situations, and memories by not laying down my end of the rope. Joyce Rupp asks us to let it be and to take a daily inventory of crumbling situations/relations. Jesus asks us to turn the other cheek. Alcoholics Anonymous twelve steps include making fearless and searching moral inventories of ourselves, admitting our wrongs, and making amends where ever possible. I have found that lowering my energy level and tempering my reactions give me a better chance of “doing right” in troublesome situations. My thanks go to our wise teachers who travel through our lives. My prayer continues to be for serenity, acceptance, courage, and wisdom. Carolyn
